Working Group Meeting: TODAY, Weds. July 8. Joey Comeau _Lockpick Pornography_

Today we will be meeting to discuss Joey Comeau’s Lockpick Pornography, as we continue to investigate modes of kinship and connection that work outside of normativity. Especially timely given the recent SCOTUS decision, Comeau’s novel ravages gender and sexual conformity, all the while looking for queer kinship possibilities.

Join us for our last June Working Group Meeting @ 5:00 today, as we discuss Seamus Heaney’s Nobel speech “Crediting Poetry” alongside two of his poems, “Kinship” and “Punishment,” each dealing with the Troubles.

Working Group Meeting: TODAY, Wednesday, June 10. Glen Sean Coulthard _Red Skin, White Masks_

Today the Working Group will be meeting @ 5:00 to discuss selections from Glen Sean Coulthard’s Red Skin, White Masks: Rejecting the Colonial Politics of Recognition. Interweaving Frantz Fanon, First Nations activism in Canada, and critiques of Marx and Hegel, Couthard’s book provides us with inroads to both a more nuanced understanding of radicality to add to our recent discussions on Cedric Robinson, and models for collectivity to add to our ongoing discussion regarding different kinship formations.

Working Group Meeting: TODAY, Thursday, May 27. Cedric Robinson _Black Marxism_

Join us today, Thursday May 27th at 5:00 in East Hall 301 to discuss selections from Cedric J. Robinson’s Black Marxism. We will be especially focused on developing a nuanced working definition of Radical to help fill out our conception of Radical Kinship, and Robinson’s scathing history of the Black Radical Tradition and its relationship to leftist thought should provide us with an excellent starting point.

Working Group Meeting: _Paris is Burning_, Wed May 13th @ 4:00

Hi All –

For our upcoming 2015 TGHC Working Group Meeting, we will be screening the 1990 film Paris is Burning, directed by Jennie Livingston. The documentary chronicles a queer of color drag scene in late-80’s New York, and we will be discussing the ways in which the film models queer kinships, ancestries, and modes of being together.

Join us for our next Working Group meeting this upcoming Thursday, April 30, when we will be discussing Paolo Virno’s essay “The Ambivalence of Disenchantment.” We will be meeting in East 301 at 6:00 over some munchies and refreshments in hopes of continuing our investigation into radicality and kinship with some good ol’ Italian Marxism.
